The all new Mustang managed to impress a lot of people with its state of the art design, great engine choice and very nice interior. However, even more people were impressed when Ford announced that they were going to actually sell the 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby gt350 and its lightweight version, the R model. The two are some of the most intriguing US made cars in the last decade thanks to their great engine and the looks of the two cars. While the GT350 might seem like a normal Mustang for an untrained eye, the car is vastly different from the base model.

For starters, Ford completely changed the design of the car with a single purpose in mind, to make it faster. The front end is now lower than usual while its headlights have been moved to the sides of the car. The grille is slightly larger and the front air intake has two cobra-like fangs. The price for the base model is right under $50,000 while the R version is nearly $14,000 more. This is because it uses a lot of new equipment in order to be faster around a track.

Engine wise, the two share the exact same engine, an all new 5.2 liter naturally aspirated flat-crank V8 which is one of the first to come from a US manufacturer. The engine can rev to as much as 8,000 rpm with ease and it can provide up to 526 horsepower and 429 lb-ft of torque which is quite impressive for a naturally aspirated mill. It is mated to a 6 speed manual gearbox which sends all of its power to the rear wheels via an electronically controlled differential. Both the usual 2016 Ford Mustang Shelby gt350 and the R version can get to 60 MPH in just 3.7 seconds and up to a maximum top speed of nearly 180 MPH, thus becoming one of the fastest Mustangs ever made.
The exterior design is quite impressive but the R model is the more impressive of the two. This is because it is the first mass produced car to get carbon fiber wheels and brakes as standard, it offers a lot of new aerodynamic kit such as a new front splitter and an adjustable rear spoiler. On top of that, both cars come with a fully adjustable suspension system while the R version offers a better stopping distance thanks to the lower total weight of the car.
Ford Mustang Shelby gt350 Interior
Inside the cabin, the two cars are quite different. The normal GT350 comes with a very similar interior to the usual Mustang with all the usual commodities as well as a few upgrades such as sport leather seats while the R comes with only 2 racing seats, a roll-cage and no additional commodities in order to save as much weight as possible.
