The current model of the Taurus has been on the market in one form or another since 2008 and it was based on an ancient Volvo platform, meaning it was slow, heavy and not that fuel efficient. Rumors about a new model have been floating around for a couple of years but Ford decided to wait in order to develop a more impressive car than before. The newest version of the car has finally been released at the Shanghai Auto Show some time ago and it is a completely different car than the previous model.
2017 Ford Taurus Review
The 2017 Ford Taurus has a lot in common with the Fusion, so it is based on a new platform and it uses a lot of new materials. The car is lighter, more fuel efficient and roomier inside which is all it matters for its customers. The US version of the car will be launched some time in the early 2016 and it is expected to come on the market for around $35,000 which is right where the previous model was. However, unlike the previous model, this time Ford may release two different versions of the car, a short and a long wheelbase model which could make for a really interesting car.
2017 Ford Taurus Engine
Engine wise, the old naturally aspirated V6 engines have been completely discontinued. Instead, Ford is going to use two all new engines for the car. The base model will get a 2.3 liter EcoBoost with 275 horsepower and 305 lb-ft of torque which will be available with front and all wheel drive while the top of the range model is going to make use of Ford’s Nano 2.7 liter twin-turbo V6. In this case, the car will only be offered with all wheel drive because it will make a lot more power at 330 horsepower and more than 350 lb-ft of torque. In any case though, a new 9 speed automatic might be used.
Design wise, the 2017 Ford Taurus will likely share a lot of similarities with the Chinese version of the car. This means that it will look very similar to the Fusion in the front but it will retain the classic Taurus look with the more muscular shape of the older model.
On the interior on the other hand, the car will be all new. Rumors say that even the most basic model will be very well equipped and it should come as standard with Ford’s Sync 2 infotainment system, heated seats, climate control, an electronic instrument cluster and even leather and aluminum inserts throughout the cabin. The new Sync 3 infotainment unit will also be available as an option on most models of the car.
